SENIOR, INTERMEDIATE AND JUNIOR HYDROLOGISTS
– VERNON
Summit Environmental Consultants Ltd. is seeking
hydrologists at all levels to join our surface water hydrology group
in Vernon, B.C.
The successful applicant for the Senior Hydrologist
position will provide strong scientific leadership on a wide range of
assignments in western Canada, supervise staff, manage relationships
with existing clients, and develop business with new clients. Minimum
qualifications are:
- Graduate degree in a relevant discipline and at least five years of progressive work experience. While the scientific
focus is hydrology, the position requires knowledge and experience in other aspects of water resources and environmental geoscience;
- Membership or eligibility for membership in APEGBC;
- Excellent computer and communication skills;
- Scientific skills in a range of areas including hydrometric data collection and analysis, water supply and demand
analysis, water balance analysis, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, land-use hydrology, and fluvial geomorphology; and
- Experience in preparing proposals, developing and nurturing client relationships, and supervising staff.
Candidates for the Intermediate Hydrologist positions
should have a B.Sc./B.A.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in a relevant field, and several
years of experience in hydrology. Experience installing and operating
hydrometric, climate, and water quality stations; and strong analytical,
modeling and writing skills are essential. The Junior Hydrologist positions
require a degree or a technical diploma in hydrology, geomorphology, or water
quality. Membership or eligibility for membership in APEGBC is an asset at
all levels.

HYDROGEOLOGIST - VERNON
Summit is seeking an Intermediate to Senior Hydrogeologist with 5-10 years
experience. The successful candidate will have all or most of the following:
- Thorough knowledge of physical hydrogeology as applied to groundwater supply, stormwater management, wastewater disposal,
groundwater-surface water interaction, and groundwater protection;
- Ability to manage projects from proposal to final report, with guidance as needed from senior professionals;
- B.Sc. in earth science with hydrogeology emphasis; M.Sc. preferred;
- Full command of English, both written and oral; and
- Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. registration or verified eligibility for same upon application.

SENIOR / INTERMEDIATE ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTISTS - CALGARY
Summit is seeking energetic and motivated environmental professionals for our growing Calgary
office. We require experienced environmental scientists and planners with a proven track record in scientific
investigations, environmental planning, project management, and client service in the environmental consulting
industry. Candidates for senior positions should have a Masters degree and five or more years of professional
experience, including experience in senior scientific, business development, and project management roles.
Intermediate-level applicants should have a B.Sc. and three years experience, or equivalent. Preferred areas
of specialization include environmental planning, wildlife biology/terrestrial ecology, fisheries biology/aquatic
ecology, hydrology, hydrogeology, and ecotoxicology. Excellent oral and written communication skills, and
professional registration (or eligibility for registration) are required.

SENIOR CONTAMINATED SITES PROFESSIONAL - VERNON OR CALGARY
We are recruiting for a senior contaminated sites
professional, to be based either in Vernon, BC (or Calgary if preferred
with travel to BC). The successful individual will be a key member
of a growing practice in contaminated site assessment and remediation,
serving clients in B.C., Alberta, and the U.S. Pacific Northwest.
Minimum qualifications are an undergraduate or graduate degree in
a relevant field (e.g. hydrogeology, soil science, and toxicology),
professional registration, at least ten years of related work
experience and eight years of direct contaminated sites experience.
A successful record of leadership and project management
is essential. Membership (or eligibility for membership) in the
B.C. Society of Contaminated Sites Approved Professionals is required. Excellent
spoken and written communication skills are also required.

FISHERIES / AQUATIC BIOLOGISTS - VERNON & CALGARY
Intermediate to senior fisheries/aquatic biologists are needed to join our team
of environmental professionals. Appropriate scientific backgrounds could include ecology, population
and habitat studies, environmental monitoring and impact assessment, habitat restoration, and aquatic
toxicology. Candidates must have:
- A graduate degree and three years consulting experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Professional biologist (R.P.Bio. or P.Biol.) designation or ability to acquire registration shortly after starting work;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and good computer skills; and
- Be interested in fieldwork and capable of leading field crews.

WILDLIFE / TERRESTRIAL ECOLOGISTS - VERNON & CALGARY
We are recruiting for wildlife biologists and terrestrial ecologists with solid experience in field
inventory, habitat assessment and mapping, quantitative analysis, and environmental impact assessment. Applicants should
have a B.Sc. degree and four years experience or a graduate degree and two years professional experience. Experience in
boreal forest and grassland habitats are of particular interest at this time. Candidates should have excellent written
and verbal communication skills, good computer skills, and be interested in fieldwork. The successful applicant will
assist in developing new business opportunities and will manage projects.

ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNER - VERNON
We are looking for an experienced environmental planner who can lead land use studies, consultation
programs, and environmental and socio-community impact assessments in the land development, transportation, municipal,
water resources, “green” energy (hydro-power, wind), and other sectors. The successful candidate will also play a key
role in developing Summit’s practice in planning; working with local governments, First Nations, and developers to plan
for sustainable growth. The ideal candidate will have an undergraduate degree in an environmental or social science
discipline (e.g. biology, geography, earth science, economics, or agriculture) and a master’s degree in planning, along
with at least two years professional experience. Experience in designing and implementing First Nations and public
consultation programs is an important asset, as is membership (or eligibility) in the Planning Institute of B.C.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

We usually hire several contract technical
staff for the mid-July to October period to support our full-time
staff. For contract fisheries positions applicants should have valid
electrofishing certification. All contract positions involve fieldwork
and thus require good physical fitness and WCB Level 1 first aid.
