Currently conducting an assessment of impacts to agricultural land capability and land use from the proposed South Fraser Perimeter Road (Delta & Surrey) and North Fraser Perimeter Road (Port Coquitlam & Pitt Meadows), and from upgrades to Highway #1 and the Port Mann Bridge (Langley and Surrey). The new highways and the changes to Highway #1 are part of the “Gateway” Project aimed at reducing traffic congestion in the Lower Mainland. The assessment includes identification of impacts on land in the Agricultural Land Reserve as well as impacts on the agricultural economy of the region. The agricultural assessment is part of the larger environmental impact assessment being coordinated by the B.C. Environmental Assessment Office.
