The City of Cranbrook proposed to extend the airport runway from 6000' to 8000' and expand the terminal to facilitate the landing of Airbus 320 and Boeing 767 charter aircraft to serve the tourism sector in the east Kootenays. Summit completed an environmental impact assessment to support the City of Cranbrook's application for an Environmental Screening under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA). The assessment also supported a successful application for a waiver from the B.C. environmental assessment process. Evaluated potential effects on vegetation, wildlife and wildlife habitat, groundwater flow, water quality, noise, air quality, traffic, and neighbouring land use. Developed mitigation strategies and environmental management plans to minimize potential environmental impacts. Provided environmental monitoring during construction.
