A risk-based, habitat-specific environmental quality guideline was developed for a set of emulsion impacted sites in the Slave Lake area.  Eleven sites were evaluated and compared, representing both wetland and upland forest habitats.  Plants, invertebrates, mammals, birds, amphibians, and reptile species were observed, or inferred to be present based on site conditions and habitat.  Expected endangered species or species at risk were identified based on habitat availability.  A qualitative habitat assessment and comparison was then completed on the field results and observations to develop an understanding of the impacts of various spill remediation techniques.
