Summit is conducting baseline hydrology, climate, groundwater, and water quality studies for a proposed Coal Bed Gas (CBG) project in the Rocky Mountains in the Crowsnest Pass region of southeastern B.C.  The program includes installation and operation of 12 hydrometric stations, two high elevation climate stations, and several automatic turbidity monitoring stations.  In addition, more than a dozen existing domestic wells in the Elk Valley have been sampled for baseline water quality, as have natural springs and seeps in the study area.  Water quality sampling of springs, groundwater and surface water includes analysis for stable and radioactive isotopes as one of the tools to obtain an understanding of groundwater-surface water interaction in the study area.
