On behalf of Alberta Environment, we reviewed the surface and ground water quantity, quality and aquatic resources components of petroleum upgrader applications prepared by a number of oil companies. The upgraders are proposed to be located near the North Saskatchewan River northeast of Edmonton. We identified data and information gaps, provided expert advice on potential aquatic impacts, and made recommendations for further data collection and modeling.
