Summit works on a regular basis with Canada’s national railways as well as with the operators of several spur lines. Projects in the railway transportation sector have included: design and supervision of the installation of “fish-friendly” culverts and bridges and associated habitat restoration; environmental monitoring during construction; assessment and remediation of soil and groundwater contamination at rail yards; and impact assessment and mitigation planning for new sidings, bridges, and other infrastructure. In addition, Summit has provided environmental response to derailments, spills and trestle fires at several locations in Alberta and British Columbia, including water quality and sediment sampling, fish salvage, development of clean-up and restoration plans, and environmental monitoring. We have also planned and implemented environmental mitigation/compensation programs as part of managing environmental liabilities from both historic and ongoing activities.
